Octopizzo
Born Henry Ohanga, Octopizzo began his career as a member of YGB (Young Gifted and Black). Hailing from Kibera, he initially rapped about the ghetto life, survival, and empowering the youths of the slums.
He released his first commercial track as a solo artist “On Top” back in 2011. In the song, he raps about getting that money and buying a new pair of shoes. Throughout his career, he has grown and shifted sound in the recent years.
With the release of his Jungle Fever album, he incorporated folk Luo sounds and benga, and collaborated with afro-fusion artists. That provided a rich soundscape to his music. He maintained that sound in his preceding releases bar Fuego in 2021.
He dropped Lamu Nights, an ultimate fan favorite in 2022 and in 2024, he released Kich ka Liech (the bees are stinging the elephants).
