Award-winning Kenyan singer and songwriter Bensoul has released his new Afro-Pop single “Mariwana,” featuring Ywaya Tajiri of Watendawili. The song explores themes of intimacy, attraction and connection between two people. It combines a stripped-back acoustic guitar opening with a bass-driven groove, percussion and electric drums.
The track was produced by MP Jazbeatz, engineered by Trevor Magak, and mixed and mastered by Hendrick Sam. “Mariwana” serves as the lead single to Bensoul’s upcoming studio album, Flight 420, and sets the tone for what he describes as his most expressive body of work to date.
A Familiar Collaboration
“Mariwana” is not the first collaboration between Bensoul and Ywaya Tajiri. Ywaya previously co-wrote and featured on “Send It” and “Kesha,” both from Bensoul’s second studio album, The Party & The After Party.
Speaking about the new release, Bensoul said the song is about self-confidence, self-love and being present in a moment of connection.
It’s an affirmation to women who believe in themselves and love themselves just as they are. The core of this track is about being completely present, uninhibited, and celebrating warmth, passion, and true connection in the moment.
BENSOUL
Ywaya Tajiri brings his vocals and songwriting experience to the collaboration, building on his work with Watendawili and songs such as “Chai ya Saa Kumi.”
